FSR4 is now working on Steam Deck, Steam OS, and Linux, previously only possible on RDNA4 graphics cards, now enabled for RDNA3 and RDNA2 devices due to leaked AMD files. Performance will improve over time.
Installing FSR4 #
- Download SDK Package:
- Open web browser in desktop mode.
- Go to the official SDK webpage for FidelityFX (linked in description).
- Download the SDK package to desktop or downloads.
- Download Modded DLL File:
- Access the Reddit post (linked in description) for a modded DL file for the FSR4 upscaler.
- Alternatively, use the MediaFire link provided in the description.
- Create FSR4 Folder:
- Right-click on desktop/downloads.
- Create a new folder and name it "FSR4" using the Steam Deck keyboard.
- Extract DLLs from SDK:
- Open the downloaded SDK zip file.
- Navigate to
kits/fidelityFX/bin
. - Drag the "frame generation DL," "loader DL," and "upscaler DL" into the "FSR4" folder.
- Rename Loader DLL:
- In the "FSR4" folder, rename
AMD FidelityFXDX12.dll
to remove "loader_" ensuring it readsAMDFidelityFXDX12.dll
.
- In the "FSR4" folder, rename
- Replace Upscaler DLL:
- Drag the downloaded modded upscaler DLL into the "FSR4" folder.
- Overwrite the existing upscaler DLL; the new one will be larger. This step is crucial for FSR4 to work.
Applying FSR4 in Games (Cyberpunk 2077 & Spider-Man 2) #
- Cyberpunk 2077:
- Go to Steam library, find Cyberpunk, click cog symbol, manage, browse local files.
- Navigate to
bin/x64
. - Find
AMDFidelityFXDX12.dll
(current FSR3 version). - Right-click, rename, and add "old" to the end (e.g.,
AMDFidelityFXDX12_old.dll
). - Copy the three prepared DLL files from the "FSR4" folder and paste them into Cyberpunk's folder.
- Spider-Man 2:
- Go to Steam library, find Spider-Man 2, click cog symbol, manage, browse local files.
- Find the Fidelity FX DLL file.
- Right-click, rename, and add "old" to the end.
- Drag the three DLL files from the "FSR4" folder and paste them into Spider-Man 2's directory.
- Renaming to "old" allows reverting to FSR3 if needed.
Performance Testing #
- Cyberpunk 2077:
- FSR 2.1 (Performance): ~45 FPS, shimmering objects, fizzling lines, less detail.
- FSR 4 (Performance): 30-35 FPS, significantly less fizzling, greater detail.
- FSR4 incurs a performance penalty on RDNA2 currently.
- Spider-Man 2:
- XSS 2.0 (Balanced): ~40-50 FPS in some areas, good image quality.
- FSR 4.0.2 (Performance, Very Low preset): Buildings cleaner/sharper, character models/objects look cleaner.
- ~30-40 FPS, less performance hit than expected.
- Stutters and drops can occur; capping FPS to 30 is recommended.
